Schloss Biesdorf

On 6 September 2001, the Foundation for an East-West Meeting Place ("Stiftung OST-WEST-BEGEGNUNGSSTÄTTE Schloss Biesdorf e. V.
was set-up as a charity. Much has happened since. The charity looks after the historically correct restoration and preservation of the listed building. A jewel brought back to former glamour....

The village of Biesdorf is 625 years old but now is part Berlin's Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. The history of the village is closely linked to the history of the manor house. Among the owners of the mansion with the tower were Werner and Wilhelm von Siemens.

Das The manor house was originally designed by the architects Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden and later altered by Theodor Astfalck, all of whom contributed to the residence's distinct appearance. Since 1927, it has been owned by the city of Berlin.

In 1945, a fire destroyed the upper floor.

Since 1979, the old manor house, the park surrounding it and the historical centre of Biesdorf have been listed as historic monuments and are under special protection. The manor house was initially used as a recreational centre and since 1994 as cultural centre as well.

The park with its old stock of trees, some of which are very rare indeed,
was lovingly restored a few years ago.
